Masses of mascara, blusher, eyeliner, foundation and lipstick.....Another day in the office for Mother Goose

Masses of mascara, blusher, eyeliner, foundation and lipstick; stockings, silk underwear and a padded bra; colourful wigs, beautiful dresses and high heel shoes, but enough about my weekends, let me tell you how things are going with the pantomime.  I’m Steve Dobson and I’m playing Mother Goose.  Now I’m neither a Mother, nor am I a Goose, but these are not prerequisites for playing this role.  All you have to do is be transformed from an ugly, plump, old dame into a beautiful, slender, young woman in a couple of pages – good luck with that make-up and costume!
Steve Dobson - Mother Goose

Rehearsals have, as always, been a real blast.  Some of the new cast members and the usual suspects, you know who you are, have been giving our beleaguered director and writer a real run for their money.  Song suggestions and script changes galore have been suggested and for the most part rejected, not least due to the fact that this is supposed to be a family show!  I sometimes find myself wondering what I am doing working all day, walking a frisky border collie and then heading off to rehearsals three times a week, but as soon as I walk into Blackwood Little Theatre I’m filled with joy and enthusiasm, must be something in the air – probably drugs!  Only joking, it’s down to the fun, enthusiasm and professionalism of a great bunch of volunteers who always give 100% and make everyone, old and new, feel welcome.

This year we have all worked really hard, not just in putting together this pantomime and other shows, but in having a huge clearance, tidy and sort out of old props, costumes and general rubbish.  The extra space and organisation will undoubtedly improve our performance and enhance your viewing pleasure.

Mother Goose is a fantastic show, full of great characters, wonderful humour, terrific songs and marvellous dances, performed by a cast of young and not so young, which will leave you with a spring in your step, a song in your heart and full of the joys of the season.  So if you haven’t already bought your tickets, what are you waiting for?  Get to it, and hurry because they are selling like the proverbial hot cakes!
